VFW Post 1533 & Scout Troop 307 | Building Leadership Through Patriotism, Service, & Community


VFW Post 1533 proudly serves as the charter organization for Scout Troop 307. Together, Post 1533 and Troop 307 work to develop young leaders through patriotism, community service and hands-on opportunities to serve veterans, families and our community.

 

A Partnership Built on Service | Veterans Teaching the Next Generation

 

The relationship between VFW Post 1533 and Scout Troop 307 creates opportunities for veterans and Scouts to learn from one another. Post members have the opportunity to mentor young people while working alongside them to make a positive difference in the community.

 

Scouts gain experience in:

  • Community service
  • Patriotism
  • Teamwork
  • Safety and responsibility

 

Our Partnership: The partnership between VFW Post 1533 and Scout Troop 307 supports three important areas:

 

Patriotism: Scouts and Post members participate in activities that promote respect for our nation’s symbols and honor those who have served.

Activities include:

  • Respectful retirement ceremonies for worn or damaged U.S. flags in accordance with the United States Flag Code
  • Placement of American flags on veterans’ graves at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for Memorial Day
  • Opportunities for Scouts to learn from and work alongside veterans

 

🤝 Community Service: Scouts work alongside VFW Post 1533 members and community partners on projects that benefit others. One example is the VFW Day of Service, where Scout Troop 307 joins Post members, family and friends in service to San Antonio families. 

 

🦅 Eagle Scout Leadership: Post 1533 provides opportunities for Scouts to develop leadership skills through Eagle Scout service projects that benefit our Post and community. Scouts plan, organize and lead their projects while working with Scout and Post leadership to ensure projects are completed safely and successfully.

Eagle Scout Projects | Leadership That Leaves a Lasting Impact

 

VFW Post 1533 is honored to be the beneficiary of three Eagle Scout projects completed in 2026! 

 

Beautification Project | 2026

This Eagle Scout project transformed the area adjacent to the Post’s front entrance. An attractive planting bed was designed and installed, along with a comfortable bench. The new planting bed and bench helps create a welcoming entrance for Veterans, their families, friends, and members of the public who visit our Post.

 

Flag Donation Box | 2026

This Eagle Scout project is an additional enhancement to the Post’s front entrance as it is an asset to Post 1533 and is also a tremendous resource for the community. Soon after its installation, the flag box began receiving worn or tattered American flags so they may be retired with dignity and respect. 

 

Patio Fence | 2026

This Eagle Scout project is both an esthetic enhancement to the Post's outdoor patio area, as well as a significant addition to our physical security measures. The beautifully constructed wooden fence replaced a previous chain link fence on the property. The patio area hosts ceremonies and parties for Post members and members of the community.

5th Annual VFW Day of Service | Turning Service Into Action

 

VFW Post 1533 members, their families and friends joined Scout Troop 307 to serve San Antonio families through the VFW’s annual Day of Service. Together, volunteers prepared food, collected and sorted clothing, and assembled snack bags for community members served by Christian Assistance Ministries (CAM).

 

The 2026 VFW Day of Service brought together: 

  • VFW Post 1533 members
  • Family members & friends
  • Scout Troop 307

 

The Impact: 222 Total Volunteer Hours Behind the Mission

  • 104 hours — volunteering at CAM on the Day of Service
  • 8 hours — collecting clothing
  • 110 hours — storing clothing at Post 1533 prior to the event

 

Working together, volunteers turned their time and talents into tangible support for San Antonio families.
