Veterans Serving Our Community | VFW Post 1533 continues the mission of service beyond military service.

 

America’s veterans continue to serve long after their military service ends. VFW Post 1533 brings veterans, their families and friends together to support veterans, local families, schools, nonprofits, civic organizations and our broader San Antonio community. Through volunteer service, community partnerships and patriotic activities, we work to strengthen the communities we call home.

 

How We Serve | Service Takes Many Forms

 

🇺🇸 Patriotism & Remembrance | Post 1533 promotes respect for our nation and honors those who have served through activities such as:

  • Respectful retirement ceremonies for worn or damaged U.S. flags in accordance with the United States Flag Code
  • Placement of American flags on veterans’ graves at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for Memorial Day
  • Commemorative ceremonies recognizing important patriotic days

 

🎖️ Veterans Day Presentations | Sharing veterans’ experiences with students and helping young people understand the meaning of service and sacrifice.

🤝 Community Service | Our members contribute hundreds of volunteer hours monthly through community service and outreach. Post members, their families and friends volunteer their time throughout the community in support of:

  • Veteran-related causes
  • Local nonprofit organizations
  • Churches and faith-based organizations
  • Community service initiatives
  • Families and individuals in need

🎒 Supporting Local Schools | Education and youth are an important part of Post 1533’s community service. We support local schools and students through:

 

  • School supply and backpack drives
  • Veterans Day presentations
  • Veteran educational presentations
  • Support for family and holiday initiatives
  • Partnerships with educators and youth organizations

🏘️ Community Partnerships | Strong communities are built through relationships.

 

5th Annual VFW Day of Service | Turning Service Into Action

 

VFW Post 1533 members, their families and friends joined Scout Troop 307 to serve San Antonio families through the VFW’s annual Day of Service. Together, volunteers prepared food, collected and sorted clothing, and assembled snack bags for community members served by Christian Assistance Ministries (CAM).

 

The 2026 VFW Day of Service brought together: 

  • VFW Post 1533 members
  • Family members & friends
  • Scout Troop 307

 

The Impact: 222 Total Volunteer Hours Behind the Mission

  • 104 hours — volunteering at CAM on the Day of Service
  • 8 hours — collecting clothing
  • 110 hours — storing clothing at Post 1533 prior to the event

 

Working together, volunteers turned their time and talents into tangible support for San Antonio families.
