YOUTH & EDUCATION PROGRAMS

  • Support to local schools, including backpack drives, presentations onsite for Veterans Day, and assembly of ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners for families.
  • VFW 1533 scholarship program: As a qualified 501(c)(19) Veteran non-profit organization, the Post places special emphasis on supporting education. The Post's scholarship was created in memory of Staff Sergeant Geffre, US Army. Through that scholarship, the Post has donated over $100,000 in higher education scholarships to family members of Post members.
  • VFW Patriot's Pen: middle school level essay competition. For more info, see the tab called Patriot's Pen.
  • VFW Teacher of the Year: Without our nation’s veterans, America wouldn't be the great nation it is today. Our youth deserve to learn about our rich history, traditions and the role of our veterans in creating and shaping America. Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle, and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program.
