VFW Post 1533 invites San Antonio-area high school students to participate in the annual VFW Voice of Democracy competition. Voice of Democracy
provides students with an opportunity to develop their critical-thinking, writing, and
presentation skills while expressing their own ideas about America.
Theme: "What a Veteran Taught Me About America.” Think about a veteran you know. What has that veteran taught you about America, service, sacrifice, citizenship or what it means to be an American?
⏰ Don't miss the deadline: October 31, 2026 | Applications must be submitted by the deadline. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Who can enter? Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 who are enrolled in:
- Public school
- Private school
- Parochial school
- Home study program
How to enter in three easy steps:
1. Write your essay: Prepare your original essay responding to the 2026–2027 theme. The use of AI is strictly prohibited.
3. Record your essay: Voice of Democracy is an audio-essay competition.
Follow the official program requirements for preparing and submitting your
recording.
4. Submit your application online: Applications will only be accepted via ScholarsApp.com
