VFW Post 1533 proudly serves as a Scout charter organization for Troop 307.
Together, VFW Post 1533 and Scout Troop 307 work collaboratively to support the following areas:
- Encouraging patriotism, including respectful flag retirement ceremonies for worn or damaged U.S. flags in accordance with the United States Flag Code and placement of flags upon graves at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery on Memorial Day.
- Community Service projects such as VFW's annual Day of Service
- Eagle Scout projects: Post 1533 is the beneficiary of an Eagle Scout project completed in 2026 (pictures below) with two more underway pending approval from Scout leadership. The completed project was designed by the Scout as an area beautification opportunity for Post 1533. The project included construction of a low retaining wall adjacent to the front door of the Post to create a small planting bed. Native Texas plants that are heat and drought tolerant were selected and planted. The Scout planned the entire project and it was installed over several days by Troop 307 under the Scout's leadership. He also planned safety protocols of his team during project installation with adult oversight provided by Scout and Post leadership. The Scout arranged for all project materials to be funded via donation which he solicited himself. Post 1533 is grateful to be the recipients of such a beautiful Eagle Scout project which aids in welcoming Veterans, their family members, friends, and the public to our Post.
5th Annual VFW Day of Service - May 2026
VFW Post 1533's members, their family members, and friends, along with support from the Post’s Scout Troop 307 completed the following activities. The event day was conducted on May 23, 2026 at Christian Assistance Ministries (CAM) supporting our community members. All hours conducted in May per requirements.
- Total 1533 Volunteers at CAM: 26
- Volunteer hours at CAM: 104
- Clothing collected and donated by Troop 307 for our Day of Service: 400 pounds
- Volunteer hours picking up clothes: 8
- Hours storing clothing at post in shed: 110
- Total pounds of Clothing sorted at CAM: 550 pounds
- Sandwiches made: 763
- Snack bags assembled: 600
- Total hours for mission: 222
